The Science Centre at Anglia Ruskin University represents a significant investment in science teaching facilities on the University’s Cambridge campus. It brings together teaching laboratories and specialist spaces for departments including forensic science, sports science, biomedical and life sciences, and computing and technology within a shared, multi-disciplinary setting.
SB Labs delivered the laboratory furniture and fume cupboard installations throughout the building, including the ground-floor SuperLab. The project required a consistent approach to laboratory design that could serve multiple disciplines while supporting the practical demands of day-to-day teaching.
The Super Laboratory was designed to accommodate up to 200 students and enable several classes from different disciplines to be taught concurrently within one shared teaching environment. This large-scale teaching laboratory encourages collaboration and efficient use of space while supporting a wide range of practical activities.
Across the laboratories, SB Labs supplied Utilaire system benches with integrated water, gas and electrical services. Flexible teaching is supported through service-integrated benching and mobile underbench storage, allowing spaces to respond to different disciplines and practical formats while maintaining safe and reliable servicing.
SB Labs also manufactured and installed eleven Ecoline fume cupboards, including one height-adjustable fume cupboard. These provide safe containment for practical and experimental teaching activities, supporting regular use within a busy higher-education laboratory environment.
The completed Science Centre provides Anglia Ruskin University with durable, adaptable laboratory environments designed to support intensive daily teaching and evolving curricula. Through the delivery of service-integrated benching systems and fume cupboard solutions designed to meet the departmental needs, SB Labs has supported the creation of a high-quality teaching facility that enables collaborative, large-scale science education.
