The refurbishment of Lancaster University‘s Physics Building formed part of a wider investment in teaching and learning facilities within the Department of Physics. Designed by ADP Architecture and delivered by Eric Wright Construction, the project created a range of specialist teaching environments supporting practical Physics education.

SB Laboratories manufactured and installed laboratory furniture for five dedicated teaching spaces within the refurbished building, including two Teaching Laboratories, a Radiation Laboratory, an Industrial Projects Laboratory and a Demonstration Laboratory.

The furniture package was based primarily on SB Laboratories’ Pedestal benching system, providing robust workstations with integrated storage and services suitable for Physics teaching environments. Additional furniture solutions included Utilaire laboratory furniture, height-adjustable workstations, mobile workstations and SpaceSaver storage systems.

The project required furniture solutions capable of supporting a variety of teaching activities, from practical laboratory sessions and demonstrations to project-based learning and specialist radiation physics teaching. The completed refurbishment provided Lancaster University with a suite of purpose-designed Physics teaching spaces designed to meet the requirements of different disciplines and learning activities within the department.
